"I
had been offered a year's subscription to ART NEWS at a very reasonable
price so I decided to take it. The magazines began to come, and
I noticed a small ad in the back of the magazine for Metropolitan
Frames. I had been looking for an alternative to the high-priced
frames that I was finding in New York, so I sent for the brochure
and ordered frames for my oil paintings. I was absolutely thrilled
with my first purchases so I ordered frames for my watercolors as
well. The frames are so well made and attractive that I will continue
using Metropolitan frames from now on, and I will recommend them
to all my artist friends."
Lee Guilliatt attended the University of Nebraska and the Art Institute
of Chicago. She moved to New York in the fifties. She worked in
the theatre and since 1970 has been painting in her downtown loft
. Guilliatt has taken a different approach to selling her work.
For the last 25 years she has an open house and exhibition the first
weekend in May. She has a large mailing list which is maintained
meticulously. She sells enough at this annual event to spend the
rest of the year making artwork for her next year's exhibition
Statement about artists work
My work is a celebration of the natural world I love so deeply.
If I have any message to express, it is to urge people to take the
time to look intensely at the environment in which they live, to
appreciate the shapes and colors of all things, both ordinary and
exalted, in their lives.
