T-Hinge - Standard Window Mat Presentation

Step 1 Step 2 Step 3

Step 1: Attach Window Mat to Backing Board

Tools and Supplies: linen tape and burnishing bone, cutting tool
Cut two or three small pieces of tape (more if picture is larger). Attach the top edge of the window mat to the backing board with linen tape. Put water on the back of the tape to activate the adhesive. Burnish the tape down with the burnishing bone. Make sure edges are flush when closed, then open again.

Step 2: Attach Hinge to back of Artwork

Attach 2 to 3 pieces of acid-free tape to the back of the art at top so a tab extends beyond the edge of the art. Burnish tape with burnishing bone.
Editor's Note:
If using two hinges, imagine art divided into two parts. If using three hinges, imagine a three-part division. Center the hinges in these imaginary divisions.

Step 3 : Attach Hinge to Backing Board

Attach a cross piece of tape to make a "T" onto the protruding tape. Burnish the tape to the backing board to secure bond.
