These blotters are used in the hinging process to absorb moisture from the pasted hinge during the drying process. They are also used in the “paste-out” process in which two blotters, one on the top covering all but an 1/8” (this can vary) of the hinge which allows you to accurately brush paste onto the hinge. These paste-out blotters should be kept separate and not mixed with the drying blotters so they do not accidentally get paste on the artwork.
