Metropolitan Picture Framing offers a complete line of classic exhibition frames in a range of widths, depths, wood species, and finishes to showcase photographs of all sizes.

Custom Made by hand We use modern woodworking machinery to insure you very fast service but we make our frames the old fashioned way. Our talented woodworkers join each frame by hand with wood glue to provide maximum strength in each corner. Spline joining is optional on all frames. The frame is sanded by hand and then finished to ensure the highest level of quality.

Optional Components: Spacers and or strainers are available on deeper profiles.

  • STANDARD

    STANDARD

    Metropolitan’s standard profile is our most popular. The profile has a 3/4″ face and comes in 5 depths. It can be used on small to very large frames when combined with our strainer system.

  • THIN

    THIN

    Used by many museums and fine art galleries, these frames have a 5/8″ face and are valued for their minimal look. They are primarily used on small to medium size pictures. On larger sizes we recommend strainers and spline joining.

  • ULTRA THIN

    ULTRA THIN

    Our ultra thin frames take it to the extreme, with a 1/2″ face. They are primarily used on small pictures. Spline joining is required and strainers are recommended on the deeper profiles to give these frames added strength and a method of hanging. These frames require more expertise and careful handling than our wider frames.

  • WIDE

    WIDE

    Simplicity at its best. These wide hardwood frames are available in 3 different widths and 2 depths which will accommodate a wide range of matted and unmatted artwork packages. Cutback versions are available which makes these larger frames seen to “float” on the wall.



MATERIALS

MAPLEMaple is our most popular wood. It is valued by museums and fine art galleries for its neutral appearance. Metropolitan Picture Framing clear lacquer and stain finishes are semi-transparent, allowing the grain of the wood to show. Our painted finishes are opaque and have seamless corners.

JOINING

Standard JoinFrames are cut to your specifications, glued, and joined with our wedge system from behind so there are no visible nail holes. All frames are then touched up and sanded before they are finished to ensure the highest level of quality.


PACKAGING & SHIPPING

PROFESSIONAL PACKAGING. Plastic wrap or coadhesive is used for protection on all frames. On joined frames cardboard is banded to the top of the frame package for extra protection. Styrofoam corners or angles are put on the top and bottom of the frame package. All packages come in a custom made corrugated box. Boxes are then taped and banded for ease in carrying and additional safety.

SHIPPING ESTIMATES are difficult to give because prices vary by zone, size, and weight. Most orders over $500 that do not require expedited shipping or oversize shipping should not exceed 15% of the order. Note: Although we do not have minimum orders, handling & shipping charges will be high if just ordering one individual frame. This is especially true on larger frames due to UPS oversize charges. To minimize shipping charges on single large frames, we recommend purchasing them unjoined with our wedge system. See framing advice.
