Lineco See-thru Mounting Strips are made from conservation quality materials. Clear Polyester mylar is bonded to a 2 ply mat with a self-adhesive back. The strips are usually used with a matting presentation and not for floating. Simply position the artwork and adhere the strips to the backing board. Then place the mat over the strips. The mat will cover the strips so they will not be seen. Because the strips can be placed on the top, bottom and sides of the artwork they can help support the artwork and help keep it flat. No adhesive touches the photo or artwork. The strips can also be removed without damaging the artwork. The strips can be trimmed to hide the strip with mat borders as small as an 1/8”.
Uses: The strips can be used alone or in conjunction with mounting corners to provide additional support on larger photographs and art. We highly recommend the use of these mounting corners for mounting photographs and also supporting large works of art as there is no adhesive used directly on the photo and it can be easily removed.
A white gummed tape that is good for general hinging. Acid free, lignin free and buffered to a pH 8.5 with 3% calcium carbonate. The water based adhesive is fast drying, strong and is reversible.
This tape has passed the Photographic Activity Test (PAT) which determines whether or not a storage material will cause fading or staining of photographs.
Uses: Recommended use is for replaceable art such as digital prints or reproductions. It is strong and easy to use. We have had good success removing this tape on 90 lb. cold press water color paper but would not recommend trying to remove this tape from thinner papers because of potential damage.

A creamed color machine made Japanese Mulberry paper tape that has a water activated adhesive embedded in it. Simply, tear off a hinge, moisten the side with adhesive (shiny side) with a brush and water, affix to the back of the artwork. Blot the hinge and add weight to the hinge till it dries (approximately 20 minutes or more). Be sure to practice hinging on some scrap before using it. One needs to determine how much water is need to activate the hinge. If necessary the hinge can easily be removed with a little water. This hinge and adhesive is pH neutral, lignin free and has passed the PAT Test.
This tape has passed the Photographic Activity Test (PAT) which determines whether or not a storage material will cause fading or staining of photographs.
Uses: The recommended use is for original art including all works on paper and photographs that are not sensitive to water. Hinges are easily removed with water without much of a residue of adhesive. This paper tape has passed the PAT test so if used, the hinges should last into the future.

The burnishing bone is used for ensuring a maximum bond when attaching tapes and or hinges without the risk of contamination from dirt and oils. Also used for making creases in Japanese paper when preparing hinges.
Abaca.sa is a self-adhesive hinging tape incorporating the strength and supple nature of Abaca paper (manila hemp) along with a very strong acrylic adhesive that is permanent and non-yellowing. Gummed tapes such as linen tape or paper hinging tape are somewhat risky to use with photographs or Giclee ink jet prints because of their water sensitivity. In these cases a self-adhesive tape is a safer alternative. Abaca.sa is strong enough to hold large digital prints, and supple enough to adhere to the print without transferring “cockling” marks on the face of the print. It is acid-free, biodegradable and comes from a self sustainable plant.
Size: 7/8” x 150 ft.
This tape has passed the Photographic Activity Test (PAT) which determines whether or not a storage material will cause fading or staining of photographs.
Uses: It is recommended for replaceable art such as digital prints or reproductions because it is not easily reversible. If it is necessary to remove the tape it may cause damage to the art. On the positive side it passed the PAT test so if used, the hinges should last and cause little or no problems to the artwork in the future.
Tin containers filled with buckshot provide inexpensive weights to hold hinges flat while drying. Smooth with no sharp edges, they give you an extra hand in applying pressure to hinges.
These separators are used in the hinging process when using the “V” type hinge when floating artwork. Made of Hollytex which is a non-woven 100% polyester it is excellent for keeping hinging tissue from sticking to the blotter during the drying process by allowing moisture to pass through and be absorbed by the blotter. Youtube video will be uploaded shortly.
These blotters are used in the hinging process to absorb moisture from the pasted hinge during the drying process. They are also used in the “paste-out” process in which two blotters, one on the top covering all but an 1/8” (this can vary) of the hinge which allows you to accurately brush paste onto the hinge. These paste-out blotters should be kept separate and not mixed with the drying blotters so they do not accidentally get paste on the artwork.
These blotters have a soft surface and are excellent at absorbing moisture.
A white cotton cambric cloth tape with a neutral pH water activated adhesive. The water activated adhesive combined with the fabric makes for a very strong bond and it is recommended for hinging window mat to backing board. It can be used to attach the "T" to the backing board for added strength. It can also be used for finishing off the sides of stretched canvas and other framing and fine art applications.
Use: Recommended use is for hinging window mat to backing board.
We do not recommend it for hinging artwork because:
1. Gummed Linen Tape is thicker than Japanese hinging paper. The linen tape can telegraph through the back of the print to the front.
2. The tape is too strong. If the artwork is dropped (the frame falls off the wall or is damaged in shipping) the hinge should be the weakest link so it would tear before the artwork would tear.
3. Gummed adhesive on linen tape is reversible but can be problematic in the process and could cause some damage to the back and front of the artwork.

An excellent tool for all sorts of tasks. We use it for removing hinges, placing a small amount of wheat paste on japanese hinges, scraping off adhesive, and stirring paste.
